LEGAL SERVICES AS A FREELANCE SOLICITOR

An independent freelance solicitor based in London and Leicester and surrounding areas.

I am a Qualified Solicitor of both England & Wales authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, with over 4 years of legal qualification experience, and 8 years of experience working in the legal industry. My clients know that they can rely on me to help them. My advice is personal, compassionate and specialised given in a cost effective and timely manner, at a place and time suitable for you. I am offering my services as a Freelance Solicitor delivering face-to-face and video consultations to clients across the UK and worldwide.

Being freelance usually means overheads (like expensive offices and support staff) are much lower. This financial saving can be passed on to you as a client, allowing you to get the  same professional legal service without the large legal bill. Furthermore, I am able to take the opportunity of having a more flexible approach, due to not being constrained by strict office hours, therefore there is more scope to arrange evening or weekend appointments for my clients.

As individual and business clients, you can now instruct me, a fully qualified solicitor directly without having to explain your problems to a receptionist first with the guarantee that all work carried out on your matter is performed by an experienced practitioner. Unlike working in a legal firm, as a freelance solicitor I can be more client focused as opposed to target driven, this enables me to tailor my services to my client’s needs and work at my client’s pace, offering a much more personal service.

fees

My goal is to let you benefit from my low overheads

Transparency and fairness are at the core of my approach to legal fees. As a freelance solicitor regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), I provide clear information on costs to help you make informed decisions. I am not registered for VAT in respect of both reserved and non-reserved legal services and therefore my fees do not include VAT and is set out in each of the engagement letters that I issue upon receipt of your instructions. In some cases, I may issue the engagement letter in the form of an email which contains the same information as in a letter format.

The client care letter sets out the most important terms, which include the scope of work which we are proposing I will carry out for you, my fee quote and the time I anticipate it will take for me to complete this work.

The terms of business are the more general, standards terms which do not tend to change from one client to another. My fee quotes are valid for a reasonable time, but not more than twenty business days.

Any disbursements, such as court fees, for expert reports, forensic reports, expert witnesses, and barristers will be additional costs and subject to VAT unless expressly indicated otherwise.

Below is an overview of my fees structure:

Free Initial Consultation:

  1. I offer a free 20 minute consultation to all new clients.
  2. An initial consultation allows me to discuss your legal needs with you.
  3. During this consultation I will provide you with an estimate of costs going forward. I do not charge VAT on my fees.

Fixed Fee Interview

  1. As a starting point I offer a fixed fee interview of £250.00 (no VAT chargeable). This includes a review of your case and confirmation of advice in writing.
  2. Should a more detailed advice letter be required, I will let you know of the additional costs at the outset of the matter.

Hourly Rate:

  1. Rate: £250.00 (no VAT chargeable)
  2. For ongoing legal work, my services are billed at an hourly rate. This includes time spent on research, preparing documents, and meetings related to your case.

Fixed-Fee Services:

  1. Wherever possible I try to agree a fixed fee for a certain amount of work which include travel, preparation and attendance time. If additional work is needed beyond the scope discussed, I'll let you know about any extra costs upfront. I generally find this is the best option for most clients.

Disbursements:

  1. Disbursements (e.g. Court fees, filing fees, postage and printing fees) are additional expenses that may be necessary as part of your case. I'll always discuss these costs with you before incurring them.

VAT

I am not currently registered for VAT and my fees will not charge any VAT.

Invoicing

I normally invoice at the end of a matter, however, I may send you interim invoices if the matter involves a substantial amount of work, or advice over a prolonged period of time. I may charge you an amount on account initially.

Need a different service?

If you’re looking for a service not listed here or if you have questions about any fees, please feel free to contact me. I’m happy to discuss your needs and provide a customized quote based on your specific requirements. My goal is to make costs as transparent and straightforward as possible.

Note: This summary is intended to provide a general guide to my fees. Individual costs may vary depending on the complexity and specific requirements of each case. You’ll receive a personalised cost estimate before any work begins.

You may be barred from making claims against the Compensation Fund if there is a problem with your legal matter.

Please note the SRA maintains a compensation fund for client protection on specific situations. For further information please visit www.sra.org.uk

I do not run a client account, so I cannot hold funds for you and I can only accept money from you in payment for my fees and disbursements. Any client funds will be paid directly to the client.

Consumers have a 14 day cancellation period and can normally cancel service at any time in the first 14 days without charge, however, in such cases I am not allowed to start work during those 14 days. Normally, you will ask me to start providing the service immediately, and so the 14 day cancellation period will not apply. Instead, you can still cancel, but you will have to pay a reasonable amount for the work I have done in the lead up to cancellation. If you cancel but I have already completed my work for you, you will have to pay my full fee and disbursements.

  5. If you choose to decline the meeting, I will send you a detailed written reply to your complaint, including my suggestions for resolving the matter, within 14 working days of you declining the meeting.
  6. If you are still not satisfied at this stage, you should contact me again and I will review the decision.
  7. I will write to you within 14 working days of receiving your request for a review either offering to arrange a further meeting with you or informing you of my final position on your complaint and explaining my reasons.
